Senior Environmental Engineer required for a national company
THIS POSITION IS BASED IN LEWES.
THE SALARY IS UP TO £40,000 PER ANNUM.
Job Description:
To provide technical support on environmental issues during the design, construction and management of infrastructure projects. To manage, oversee and undertake environmental impact assessment and appraisals, environmental management and other environmental and sustainability activities. To commission and manage in-house and external consultants carrying out specialist environmental work. To lead, develop and guide junior team members, and check reports and other output. To advise in detail and manage technical input on one or more environmental technical disciplines, such as ecology or landscape.
Efficient and cost effective delivery of environmental services to highways and infrastructure design and management businesses. Oversee the technical input of less senior environmental engineers, advise and support design teams and be able to support on wider sustainability issues in highways, waste and other sectors.
Role is office based in the Lewes office, involving travel around the country to sites, other Consulting offices, other regional offices etc. Some potential to work from home or other Consulting offices, if required.
Requirements:
Degree and post-graduate qualification in an environmental subject relevant to our business. Significant experience working on highways schemes, good working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges. Associate of IEMA or similar organisation.
Desirable:
Member of IEMA or similar, Chartered Environmentalist. Ten years’ highways environmental management experience.
Responsibilities:
Decisions will be made affecting budget and performance on projects, responsibility for developing and motivating engineers and graduates. Performance will contribute to business success of the team and the company.
Manage junior team members, manage external consultants undertaking environmental work on behalf of the company. At times, manage teams of internal and external consultants undertaking environmental impact assessment.
The Individual:
We’re looking for a team player with high technical standards who can adapt to working on a range of scheme types in different roles, advising, co-ordinating and mentoring. Someone with experience dealing with statutory bodies, contractors, designers and consultants. Someone with a keen interest in environmental and sustainability issues but with experience in implementing practical schemes within the constraints of cost and programme.
