Brighton musicians available
Guitarist and mandolinist invited to join Fretful Federation Plucked Orchestra
We're an established plucked orchestra that's been in Brighton for about 15 years and we've won national competitions many times, in this country.
We're approx 25 strong, but that ain't enough. There are orchestra in Japan about 100 strong, so that is where we're trying to get to!
We welcome all abilities; in fact we reckon that joining us is better than any lessons, on your chosen instrument, for improving reading and ensemble playing. If you play classical guitar it will be easy to read the part music, and if you aren't trained in reading, and finger style, then it will be a great opportunity to learn.
It's also a lot of fun, as testifies by our being together for the last 15 years!
We also have instruments to loan out, due to an Arts Council Award, to members of the orchestra.
We play from written music. We play plenty of contemporary modern compositions, from around the world, as well as classical and traditional pieces. This season we combined with The Hullabaloo Choir to perform The Electric Light Orchestra's 'Mr Blue Sky'.
We're like a string orchestra except violins = mandolins, violas = mandolas, mandocello = cello and bass = mandobass.
We perform about 6 to 8 concerts a year and rehearse every Tuesday at 7.30pm, at St George's Church, in Kemptown.
Come and check us out, at our rehearsals, if you want to.
