M& E Services Engineer
Working for a local council duties will include:
1. To deliver a high quality for money repairs and maintenance service.
2. The service is to be provided within budget, reflecting the performance requirements and responding to the needs and values of customers and the department.
3. To ensure contractors compliance with Gas Installation and Use Regulations 1998 and IEE Wiring Regulations 16th Edition 1992 (Amended).
Principal Accountabilities
1. Be accountable to the Mechanical and Electrical Team Leader for the quality of service delivery associated technical advice and decisions on placing repairs orders to an agreed level.
2. To undertake visits to tenanted, empty properties and sites, pre-inspect and determine works required and raise all necessary works orders with budgetary limitation and the Council’s Financial and Standing Orders.
3. Under the direction of the Mechanical and Electrical Team Leader, prepare estimates and contract documents, check and approve tenders/quotations received and raise all necessary works orders within budgetary limitations and the Council’s Financial and Standing Orders.
4. Liaise with and monitor the Responsive Repairs and Empty Property contract in respect of mechanical and electrical services (content, quality and cost), confirm and issue all variation orders within budgetary limitations and the Council’s Financial and Standing Orders.
5. Liaise with contractors to ensure all works and services are completed within agreed time limits, with the minimum of inconvenience to occupiers and neighbours of adjoining properties.
Essential Criteria
1. Working knowledge of M & E services together with proven technical diagnostic skills.
2. Proven ability to prepare specifications/schedules of work in accordance with contractual, statutory and best practice requirements.
3. Good working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety regulations.
4. Proven ability to prepare/produce reports.
5. Effective verbal communication skills and ability to deal with a wide range of people.
6. Able to negotiate effectively with contractors.
7. Good working knowledge of, BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations 16th Edition (Amended), Puwer Regulations 1998, Fire Alarms & Means of Escape Regulations.
