Lessons for intermediate and advanced students
Here is my take on language learning; I work with people who can manage some conversation and have a good motivation for picking up more of the language at this point in time. the lessons are geared to subjects that interest us and specific needs- talking with builders or a notaire in France, wanting to read litterature in French, discussing aspects of French life/ politique, doing post graduate work at Uni, working for an NGO in Africa.....going to introduce a film in Cannes....etc
I teach in a cafe in lower Kemp town and other cafes as suit. nearly all my students love the place and we get over any embarassement at the first meeting , truly.
once we sit down you have 75 minutes which is really quite a good long time for one to one language teaching.
we start with conversation and you use as much French as possible slotting in some English when required. I jot a few things down and come back on needed vocabulary, or turns of phrase...conversations highlight what vocabulary, conjugaisons or grammar is missing and we can remedy some of that . we might have a go at translation from the french or reading aloud to get the sense and pitch of the language. eventually i get you to translate everyday english into french and perhaps point out how differently the French would approach a particular sentence. we use a lot of colloquial french and enjoy learning expressions, sayings and slang. we might also do some word games or have a go at translated cartoons. I can give you some photocopies, point out materials and lend you a grammar ( i am more concerned with speaking and understanding than grammar lessons)

I am originally French, have lived in England a very long time and enjoy bantering between languages..i keep in touch with the french anguage etc via readings, radio and occasional visits. I spent a year in toulouse recently.

as to cost...i have a sliding scale depending on people's circumstances and give a reduction for a block of 6 lessons and or a regular commitment of 3 lessons a month. I am open to swopping skills/ services which includea share or regular access to an allotment or org veges, some shiatsu or massage if you are experienced, aromatherapy... or any technique effective for migraine. but please do make suggestions
lessons cost £22 for those 75 minutes before any negotiations.
Oh and ...it is often a lot of fun beyond deeply satisfying once you get over the hurdle of starting speaking.
